A burgeoning commercial district. = York Blvd Eagle Rock + Highland Park
For all you readers out there, I encourage you to drive, walk, bike or scoot your way from the corner of Eagle Rock Blvd & York and head east about 20 blocks until you reach Figueroa. Over the last four years we have seen new businesses come in and the area is beginning a quiet development.
What's new:
1. The York- formerly The Wild Hare - changed owners and now is crowded on Fridays and Saturdays, people spill out on to the street.
2. Johnny's - a great bar to socialize without losing your voice. Watch movies or documentaries on the screen. Recently screened -Mohammed Ali fight from the 60's- mesmerizing footage.
3. Marty's - slick swanky - cocktails and good food.
4. What used to be an abandoned building next to the Arco gas on Eagle Rock and York (previously fenced in by a chainlink fence) is now after a speedy construction job a "Longs Drugs" and "Starbuck's" shopping center. It will draw other smaller businesses to the area who feed off the traffic.
More is happening. Developers, architects, and engineers should consider the potential financial gain from developing York Blvd. It has fewer restrictions than Colorado Blvd and is centrally located. Northeast LA also know as NELA , situated at the base of the Verdugo mountains and just east of the Santa Monica range offers easy access to the valley, downtown and east towards the desert. York Blvd is ready for a great future!
