Canfield-Moreno Estate in Silver Lake

The Canfield-Moreno Estate, a 22,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style country villa is located at the highest point on Micheltorena Street. Perched atop a hill known as the Moreno Highlands, this mansion was constructed in 1923 by architect Robert Farquhar.

Antonio Moreno, a silent film star who married an oil heiress by the name of Daisy Canfield Danziger lived in the estate for many years. Their marriage ended when Daisy Canfield Danziger was killed in an automobile accident, apparently she went over a steep cliff on Mulholland drive. The estate changed owners only a few times, it was the Chloe P. Canfield School for Girls for several years. Then in 1950, it became a convent for Franciscan nuns who sold the property in 1987 after it was damaged by an earthquake. Dana Hollister, a philanthropist bought the property and currently it is used as a music recording studio and also a place for social events.

Dana Hollister is related to the largest landowning family in California. Her family owns the Hollister Ranch which consists of 8 ½ miles of coastline, extending from Gaviota to just short of Point Concepcion, and north from the shoreline to the top of the first ridge of the Santa Ynez mountains. Its' area covers the natural boundaries between Northern and Southern California.
