Halloween. Boo!
from the Times 1910..."The grounds consist of 14 landscaped acres. The hotel is built to Mission-style with a roof garden. The hotel, itself, would contain just 18 rooms, each with a private bath. It was rather extraordinary for the time to have a hotel with a bath for each room. "
Subsequently the hotel was used for many things including: Mt. Washington Military School, Goodrich-Mount Washington Emphysema Hospital. In 1925, the vacant hotel was sold to Parmahansa Yogananda, a monk of the ancient Swami Order in India, and founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship. At the time Yogananda purchased the hotel it was full of vagrants and many of the windows had been broken. It is still a Mt. Washington landmark.
This Halloween one could see Dumbledore, a talent show featuring Elvis Presley, as well as the world's strongest man! Mixed in between the acts was a fabulous host who told world class jokes...What do you call a skeleton that's dumb? A bone-head. What do ghost's eat for dessert? I Screeeeaammm. What do they put on top of their dessert? Whipped Scream. It was a great night with a lot of great costumes and brilliant pumpkins. Worth visiting.
