19 New trees planted on York Blvd

This April several volunteers and neighbors in part with TreePeople helped plant 19 trees along a stretch of York Blvd from Avenue 42 through to Ellenwood. This area of Eagle Rock is near the 2 freeway and feels more like a thoroughfare than a neighborhood sometimes. The Brisbane Box tree was planted, a native to Australia, the tree is deep-rooted and drought-tolerant when established. Pests, insects and smog do not seem to bother it. A moderate- to fast-growing evergreen, it may grow up to 40 feet tall. It loves full sun.
This area of Eagle Rock will quickly change once the trees take off and people will slow down to say 'what a nice neighborhood.' This area has become a desirable overflow area in comparison to the more pricey neighborhoods like Silver Lake/Echo Park and Los Feliz. Delevan Elementary schools gets excellent ratings. Their test scores are almost as high as the much sought after Ivanhoe Elementary school and Mt Washington elementary school.
